Henry Ford has gotten alot of press for his Model A and later the Model T but the real inventor of the car and the internal combustion motor are not American at all and these inventions predated Ford’s first car by almost 30 years. In Germany, Heinrich Diamler had invited the internal combustion engine and the first car, which you can watch below, first took to the streets in 1886. Bertha Benz took out her husbands invention to go to her sisters house quickly and easily amazing everyone along her route. No one had seen an automobile or a horseless carriage before. No on realized that they were witnessing a moment of history. In this video from Mercedes Benz, they have recreated that moment when Bertha stopped for fuel for her car in a small village.
