That was the subject of a recent congressional hearing. The CEOs of the big tech firms (Amazon, Apple, Google, and Facebook) were hauled before Congress to talk about how they control markets and why that might stifle competition and simply be unfair. One of the biggest problems with modern digital media (like Rouges!) is that almost all advertising is now controlled by either Google or Facebook. This leaves every other ad based digital property from Rouges up to the New York Times without any real means to compete. Pile on Amazon’s control of e-commerce, Apple’s vertical integration and Facebook’s various issues and it isn’t a wonder why Congress is thinking about breaking up some of these companies.
