One of the unique aspects of the modern American economy is how many Americans are forced to live on essentially nothing while also working. Many are stuck working multiple jobs and still, the ends don’t meet. In our 2019 Poverty Week, we cataloged people in LA who are working but can’t afford housing. This is becoming a more common affair throughout the country has the price of everything increases while wages stay stubbornly low. Wage growth was beginning to pick up slightly before the pandemic but with the Covid Depression growing ever deeper, those gains have been erased. In decades past, having a job was enough to secure some sort of life and future. Now, even having a job isn’t enough to provide a decent living. In this video, we revisit this topic.
