Earlier this year, China’s central government decided to basically end the rapid construction of skyscrapers across China. They tasked local governments to regular building construction more and new towers over 500 meters (800 feet or so) will now have a pile of regulations and bureaucrats to navigate through to build anything new. These new regulations also restrict so-called copycat buildings that have led to many Chinese provinces building their own versions of iconic buildings from around the world. The central government says that local governments must work to create buildings more in like with Chinese style.
