There is a reason that many people think of the 1950s and the 1960s as a golden age for America, especially for the middle class. In this video, there is a great documentary style film made about what life was like for a worker and his family in the 1950s and how a strong union, healthcare, and household economy made life for people at the time comfortable and with an strong eye to the future.

Sadly, thanks to economic changes, this is no longer the case for most Americans. The ability to own a house car or have a single-income household is no longer possible for the vast majority of workers. This lifestyle, even with its flaws, has a great deal of appeal. The children went to good schools and were able to excel, workers had protections, and people were able to actually live and enjoy life rather than stressing over bills and living paycheque to paycheque.
