In July, America lost one of its most prominent authors: Toni Morrison. Toni Morrison wrote haunting books that told spectacular stories of lived experiences of people of color and especially women. Second, only to Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison was a living treasure. The way she talked and the things she talked about make her books like Beloved essential reading. If you haven’t picked up a Toni Morrison novel, you should pick one up right away. You could always tell her novels on the shelf because her titles were usually always one word. She was a Presidential Medal of Freedom award winner, Nobel prize winner, and had won the Pulitzer for fiction.

The Washington Post did a great review of her life and many of her words. Our hearts are with her family in this tough time. She impacted the lives of so many people and was a trailblazer for all the diverse writing voices that we now enjoy.
